The Moment It Went Wrong For Sean O'Malley

The Suga Show was stopped in its tracks by Marlon Vera in the co-main event of UFC 252 and the fight turned on one moment.

'Sugar' Sean O'Malley had his winning streak ended at UFC 252 and the fight against Marlon Vera turned on a single moment in the first round.

O'Malley has been on a huge hot streak since impressing in Dana White's Contenders series in 2017 and had won his first six fights in the UFC.

On Saturday night he came up against his toughest test in the UFC 252 co-main event against Vera and started well enough, with some excellent calf kicks.

However 'Chito' was soon in the fight and O'Malley then seemed to get injured and the Ecuadorian was able to finish the fight in the first round, and it's clear where it all went wrong for 'Sugar.'

The fight was ended, prematurely in some fans' views, when O'Malley went down for a second time, clearly suffering from the same issue with his foot.

Vera then took advantage by landing several huge elbow strikes to his hurt opponent and there was no way the 25-year-old was going to be able to carry on.

Following the decision by the referee, the American was spotted being stretchered away from the arena to be checked out.

The man whose character is as big as his huge knockout strikes took to Twitter to let his fans know that everything was fine.

O'Malley was very much the favourite going into the fight and had stoked the flames ahead of the fight by having his hair coloured in the colours of the Ecuador flag, Vera's home country.

That, added to the fact the 27-year-old was unlucky to lose his previous fight, against Song Yadong in May, that denied him what would now be seven wins in-a-row, clearly made him emotional for his win.

After the fight Vera was quite aggressive as the decision was announced and you can see how much the win meant to win.

The win will surely see him ranked in a very packed bantamweight division, but he certainly one to keep an eye out for.

It's not back to the drawing board quite yet for O'Malley but first he has to get his injured foot sorted.
