British punters backing the New England Patriots for the Superbowl

The New England Patriots may only be third favourites for the Superbowl - but British punters are backing them in their droves, according to the UK's leading American sports bookie Redzone.bet.

A staggering 40% of RedZone.bet customers are on the famous side to not only beat their Kansas City Chiefs opponents in the AFC Conference Final this weekend - but to go on and lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy despite being rated the third most likely to do so, longer than the 5/2 Chiefs and 7/4 favourites the New Orleans Saints.

This could be down to their huge popularity this side of the Atlantic, and the fact they have won the Superbowl twice since 2014 - and having lost out to the Philadelphia Eagles last year they are out for revenge in what could be superstar quarterback Tom Brady's final season before retirement.

Los Angeles Rams may be slight outsiders of the four remaining sides to win the Super Bowl at 4/1 - but 30 per cent of punters are still backing them in, second only to the Patriots.

Sean McVay's Californian team have had heavy backing from the UK, in the most part down to their brilliant attacking players - with running backs Todd Gurley and CJ Anderson in red hot form and will pose a real threat to the New Orleans Saints.

The Saints are favourite to win the Superbowl at 7/4 - but this doesn't chime with bettors as just a paltry five per cent of the outright bets have been on the side looking for their second Super Bowl success - 10 years after their maiden victory in 2009, while 25% of the betting public are happy to side with the chiefs - despite them not having won the Super Bowl for almost 50 years.

Playoffs weekend has triggered a gridiron betting bonanza on this side of the Atlantic, with one fan placing a cool £20,000 on a double of Kansas (-3) and New Orleans (+3) covering their spreads respectively, yielding a handsome £67,000 should it land.

A RedZone.bet spokesman said: "Fans think they have seen the script and they're backing Brady and the Patriots to rewrite the history books in record number."

"This weekend looks set to be off the scale in terms of betting interest and there looks to be a huge outbreak of NFL fever across the entire country on this side of the Atlantic."
