It's an old adage but one Ladbrokes customer in Glasgow will be hoping that fortune favours the brave in Las Vegas on Saturday night when another heavyweight boxing clash takes centre-stage in the sporting calendar, as Saul Canelo Alvarez takes on Gennady Golovkin.

The punter has wagered £40,000 on the 27-year-old Mexican to land the WBA and IBF middleweight title at 5/4, meaning he stands to win a cool £90,000.

Standing in his way is the classy Kazakh fighter Golovkin who currently holds the WBA, WBC and IBF middleweight titles. The 35-year-old is unbeaten in 37 fights, whilst Alvarez has only tasted defeat once against Floyd 'Money' Mayweather in 2013.

Golovkin missed the birth of his daughter earlier this week to continue his preparations for Saturday's fight at the T-Mobile Arena, the venue which also held the Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor fight three weeks ago and he is the 4/6 favourite with Ladbrokes to win this superb match-up.

The Magic Sign report plenty of money being wagered on the fight, with Alex Apati of Ladbrokes, commenting: "Triple G may be proving popular, but so far the big money has gone on Canelo and one punter in particular could be celebrating a cool £90k win this weekend if the Mexican puts an end to his opponent's unbeaten streak."

Danny Archer's verdict - I reckon the Glaswegian punter might just be onto something with Alvarez. Whilst I would be reluctant to lay out £40,000, Golovkin looked laboured in his win against Daniel Jacobs last time and I was impressed with Alvarez' victory over Cesar Chavez Jr in May. He limited the sheer power and force of Chavez last time with an exemplary display and he also has age on his side, being seven years younger than Triple G, which makes 6/5 with Ladbrokes a reasonable price.

Whatever happens on Saturday, this promises to be another huge fight, which once again has followed in the footsteps of Joshua-Klitschko and Mayweather-McGregor in bringing universal media and popular appeal to the sport. If Alvarez does win, we all know who's buying the drinks in Glasgow on Saturday night.
