According to reports, Chelsea have agreed a €35m deal for Roma defender Antonio Rüdiger.

The German international is currently completing a medical in Los Angeles, rather than London, per Calcio Mercato.

The 24-year-old was rumoured to be flying into Heathrow for his medical yesterday, but will instead have it out in the US as he holidays - following Germany's Confederations Cup success in Russia.

The Blues have been after the centre-back for a while, with the Champions looking to bolster their already impressive squad following the departure of club captain John Terry.

Manchester City were reportedly looking to hijack the move last week, but the player has opted for a move to the capital over the Etihad.

The deal includes a €35m fee up-front, with an extra €4m in potential add-ons based on appearances and achievements.

The powerful centre-back spent four years at Stuttgart before moving to AS Roma, initially on a season-long loan deal in August 2015 before making the move permanent the following season for €7.6m.

He's served two years of his four-year contract at Roma, playing 72 games for them in all competitions.

He has represented Germany at every level from Under 18s to the Senior side, including being part of the Confederations Cup winning squad this year.

He won 34 tackles in his 26 games last season, contributing to Roma's 2nd placed finish and acting as an integral part in them having the 2nd best defence in the Serie A.
