ODDSbible Racing: Newmarket 1000 Guineas Day Race-By-Race Betting Preview

We had a cracking day at Newmarket on 2000 Guineas Day yesterday with the NAP and win double both landing.

A certain Ballydoyle maestro Aidan O'Brien played a big part in that success and we're hoping for more of the same today.

Selections for Hamilton and Leopardstown are also below courtesy of Danny Archer...

Rhododendron to bloom at Newmarket

1:50: Newmarket - Mainstream 7/1 Each Way and Final 17/2 Each Way.

Sir Michael Stoute's Dansili gelding has finished second on his last three runs but he has been running with credit in defeat. Kept in training as a four-year-old, he is the type of horse which Stoute can get further improvement out of as an older horse.

Final has been running with credit in defeat recently and flew home at Ripon last time to finish second. This is much tougher but he looks a likely each-way player.

2:20: Newmarket - Somehow 9/4.

Did well to win last weekend as she met trouble in running but looked very strong at the finish and I was quite impressed with that victory in tough conditions. She could prove tough to beat having already beaten horses such as Skiffle. O'Brien has his horses in fine fettle and he shades the verdict on form.

2:55: Newmarket - Gunmetal 8/1 Each Way and Captain Colby 10/1 Each Way.

Gunmetal was very impressive over course and distance earlier this term and whilst he has been raised 8lb, he looked to have matured and strengthened over the winter and there is likely more to come from him.

Captain Colby won a Doncaster handicap very impressive in September and he ran well at Doncaster in April keeping on respectably in the final furlong to finish second. He should benefit from that first run of the season and she should go close.

3:35: Newmarket - Rhododendron 11/8 NAP and Talaayeb 12/1 Each Way.

Rhododendron deserves her place at the top of the market after producing an impressive display in the G1 Dubai Fillies' Mile at Newmarket in October. Under Ryan Moore, the filly showed an impressive turn of foot to come clear of her rivals by two and a quarter-lengths that day and like O'Brien's 2000 Guineas winner Churchill yesterday, she comes into the Fillies' classic without a prep run, but I don't think that it is going to be an issue.

Talaayeb was impressive when scoring by two and a half-lengths at Newmarket in September, beating some decent yardsticks. I was taken with how the daughter of Dansili quickened up that day and a racecourse gallop should have left her in perfect shape for this event. Closely related to 1000 Guineas winner Ghanaati, she looks a cracking each-way bet for a trainer whose first classic runner finished second in last year's 2000 Guineas.

4:10: Newmarket - Qaaraat 5/2.

Ed Dunlop's charge was an excellent fourth in on his debut at Newbury last month. He should have learnt a lot from that day particularly as he was always in the firing line that day.

4:45: Newmarket - Astronomy's Choice 6/5.

John Gosden's charge won well over seven furlongs here in October. Should be more to come from her and she makes the most appeal.

5:20: Newmarket - Bin Battuta 5/1 Each Way (1/4) and Count Calabash 12/1 Each Way.

Bin Battuta was an excellent third to a couple of smart rivals over course and distance last time and that looks strong form.

Count Calabash was in fine fettle last term and he ran very well on his reappearance having struggled to find room in the closing stages late on. He looks a great each-way bet.

Sweet Dreams are made of this at Hamilton

2:05: Hamilton - Dream Of Dreams 2/1.

Very smart juvenile who finished an excellent second on his last start in the Rockingham at York. Had been pulled up earlier on in the season but he put that injury setback behind him and he has a good chance here.

3:10: Hamilton - Star Glitter 11/4.

Likely there is more to come following on from his debut when fourth on his stable debut.

4:20: Hamilton - What Wonders Wave 5/2.

Ran well to finish third on debut at Dundalk at a big price and with normal improvement expected, that would give him a strong chance in this event.

Make the Captain show his rivals Hardship at Leopardstown

1:10: Leopardstown - Sioux Nation evens.

Ran a cracker to finish third on debut but he was favourite that day and didn't see his race out brilliantly. Stepping up in trip might enable this son of Scat Daddy to settle better.

1:40: Leopardstown - Captain Hardship 15/2 Each Way.

Michael O'Callaghan does very well with his sprinters and this Lonhro colt ran with credit in three starts last term. He should improve on that in his handicap debut.

3:20: Leopardstown - Yucatan 15/8.

You would probably just have to give him the verdict based on his third last time behind Douglas Macarthur and Rekindling as he would have needed that reappearance. He should improve for that comeback run and rates as the one to beat.
