Luka Modric picked up the Sportsman of the Year award from GQ Magazine last night at an event held in Madrid.

The Croatian has had a wonderful year, winning his third successive Champions League with Real Madrid, while he also finished runner-up at the Russia World Cup.

The midfielder has also scooped several personal accolades in 2018 including, the best player at the World Cup, UEFA Men's Player of the Year 2017/18 and FIFA's The Best Men's Player 2018.

Therefore, it would be a massive shock if the 33-year-old doesn't win the Ballon d'Or in on 3rd December.

And the bookies are taking no chances, making the former Spurs star 3/10 to lift the prestigious award.

If, or should we say when, the midfield maestro does win the Ballon d'Or he would be first player aside from Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to claim the trophy since Kaka back in 2007.

Meanwhile, it is being suggested that Messi and Ronaldo haven't even make the top three, if that is the case it would the first time since 2006 that the pair haven't been included.

It is understood Raphael Varane, Kylian Mbappe, who both starred in France's World Cup glory, will make up the top three along with Modric.

Madrid defender Varane seen his odds slashed from 150/1 to as short as 5/1 to scoop the trophy, while PSG ace Mbappe is also as little at 5/1.
