James Milner's odds of a sensational return to Leeds United have never been shorter with bookmakers.

The Liverpool ace's contract is set to expire next summer, and the bookies now make it just a 2/1 shot he returns to his boyhood club.

Milner came through the youth ranks at Leeds and played for the senior side for two years before he moved to Newcastle United.

The versatile 32-year-old spent five years at Manchester City where he won two Premier Leagues, an FA Cup and a League Cup.

He then moved to current club Liverpool in 2015 and has been runner-up in both the UEFA Europe League and Champions League.

Milner also made 61 caps for England scoring one goal in his seven-year international career.

However, it is understood he is only willing to re-join his boyhood club if they are promoted to the Premier League.

Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds are currently joint-top of the Championship after 11 games and are 5/1 to finish the season champions, while they are 5/4 to gain promotion.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "If Leeds needed an incentive to win promotion back to the Premier League, then the potential return of James Milner has to be it."
