Fantasy Premier League Preview: Game Week Nine

Here's our picks for those Fantasy Premier League squads in game week nine.

Defender

At this point in the season, many of you just want a differential defender to bolster your squad. You've already got Walker, you're sticking with Valencia and you're not quite sure how Gareth McAuley got in but he's staying put. I'm pretty sure that's how Pulis sees it in real life too.

So you want a cheap defender? If you search the defenders in the game coming in at under £4.5m you will notice an interesting (not in the real world, just FYI) trend. The top 3 scoring budget defenders all ply their trade at Turf Moor.

Although they have only managed one clean sheet, Burnley are very economical with their yellow cards and with the league's defensive units improving as the months go on, it might be a shrewd move to stock your squad with the likes of Ben Mee at £4.5m which might free up some money for some expensive midfielders or even a January signing.

Midfielder

There's not great shock at who the must have midfielder in the game is currently. And while Theo Walcott's goalscoring streak is surprising us all, the most astonishing part of it all is that his FPL value remains under £8.0m.

We can only presume the Premier League also expect him to trip over his own lack of personality and be out for 3 months, leaving room for The Ox to fill in without anyone noticing in some sort of rotating Saved By The Bell plot.

For the time being, however, we have to accept that Theo has become a genuinely lethal and consistent goal threat, in the same way Aaron Ramsey managed it before him. The pressure will be on Walcott to continue to deliver with the threat of returning players and/or a loan move to Bournemouth hanging over him.

Forward

Fixtures are your friend in fantasy football and sometimes it is wise to look ahead when bringing in a player.

The Zlatan love in is all but over and Aguero's penalty miss is still fresh in the mind of many fantasy managers, leaving a gaping hole in your strikeforce. You just need someone you can trust, right? Someone who will always be there? No.... not him, put the Bible down, I mean Romelu Lukaku.

Everton have had a great start to the season under Ronald Koeman and face Burnley, West Ham and Swansea in 3 of their next 4 fixtures. Not exactly renowned for their ability to keep clean sheets.

Big Rom has 12 more points than either Aguero or Ibrahimovic and comes in over £2m cheaper than both. It's hard to let go of something you once loved, but maybe it's time.
