A West Ham fan has set up a GoFundMe page to try and raise £2 million to pay the first year of Declan Rice's contract.

Rice is understood to be demanding around £40,000 a week, approximately £37,000 more than what he currently earns at the London club.

The 19-year-old broke into the first team under David Moyes last season, however, he had a tough time under new boss Manuel Pellegrini at the beginning of this term before becoming a regular again.

Rice is currently on an academy contract meaning he is currently earning only around £3,000 a week and it is understood the board are only willing to give the youngster £21,000 a week, while he wants nearly double.

Talks between the club and the centre-back seem to have a stopped and it has pushed one die hard 'Hammers' fan into creating the funding page.

Greg Richardson, who created the page, wrote: "Declan Rice reportedly wants a 40k contract. That's about £2 mill a year.

"The board are dragging their heels. Let's raise the funds to pay for the first year of the contract our future captain desires. #coyi"

The page, which was posted nearly 24 hours ago, is yet to raise a single penny and has received mixed reactions, one user called Daystar said: "This is a good idea but what if he doesn't play well and he wants himself away from the club."

While another person called Michael, added: "Wait, so help pay a professional footballer his first year of 40k-a-week wages with our (most of our) well under 40k-a-year wages? Are you on crack!? Has some perspective pal! #coyi"

Meanwhile, Rice is still undecided who he will represent at international level, the youngster qualifiers for both the Republic of Ireland and England and despite having already played friendlies for Martin O'Neill's side it is suggested he is set to choose England.
