Euro 2016 Day Five: Betting Preview

We preview the Group F action on Day Five of Euro 2016.

Italy's exhilarating victory over Belgium last night rounded off a great day of Euros action, in which Spain were saved by Gerard Pique's late header and Ireland proved they're there for more than just making up the numbers with a 1-1 draw over Sweden. Unfortunately, there are only two games today but we think we've found some value for you all.

In the opening game of the day, Austria 'host' Hungary in Bordeaux to close out the opening round of games. With domestic league winners David Alaba (Bayern) and Christian Fuchs (Leicester) leading them, I fancy Austria to win at 8/11. In terms of personnel, they are much stronger than the Hungarians - who still start tracksuit bottom merchant Gabor Kiraly in goal - and should make that quality shine through. Going forward, players like Marko Arnautovic, Zlatko Junozovic and Marc Janko have bags of talent and should really be running Hungary ragged.

In qualifying, Hungary only scored 11 times in their 10 games and that was against much poorer opposition in an incredibly weak Group F. Austria, on the other hand, conceded just 5 times - winning 9 games and keeping 6 clean sheets. For that reason I'm also taking Austria to keep a clean sheet at evens and Austria win to nil as a longer shot at 8/5.

In the later game in Group F, Portugal and Iceland go head-to-head in Saint-Etienne. Understandably a lot of people's eyes will be on the enigmatic Cristiano Ronaldo as he looks to lead Portugal to their first piece of major international silverware, supported by the likes of Nani and new Bayern Munich youngster Renato Sanches. CR7 is clearly the best player in the Portugal side so it could be worth taking the 13/5 available on him to score first; however, I'd recommend taking the 6/1 available on him to score at anytime for those without an existing NetBet account here.

One thing both of these sides are definitely capable of doing is scoring goals. Portugal put SEVEN past Estonia in their final warm up game for the tournament, whilst Iceland have scored nine in their last three games. That makes me think this game will involve goals and at 6/4, I'd recommend jumping on Both Teams to Score. That's a huge price for me, especially considering Portugal have gone seven games without keeping a clean sheet at major tournaments (since the 2010 World Cup).
