England v Iceland: Betting Preview

Here's our betting preview for England's last 16 clash with Iceland.

England will be far happier having drawn Iceland in the last 16 instead of Portugal but tonight's opponents are certainly no pushovers and the Three Lions are in for a tough game in Nice.

Roy Hodgson's side have been widely inconsistent so far and all though they remain unbeaten, they've hardly set the tournament alight.

England won one and drew two of their group stage games and while they dominated for massive spells of each game and looked good doing it, they struggled to break down their opponent's stubborn defences, finishing second in a group they should have walked.

Icelandic veteran and former Chelsea and Barcelona star, Eidur Gudjohnsen called tonight "the biggest game in Iceland's history" and that sentiment shouldn't be underestimated. Iceland are a team ranked 47th in the world by FIFA and who's population consists of just over 300,000 people. They will most certainly be out to cause an upset.

Iceland have defied expectations so far and share the same record as England in the group stages having also won one and drawn two.

Lars Lagerback's side boast a solid defence and only conceded six times in ten during qualification so it could be another frustrating night for the England attack.

We're backing a tight game but think England have enough quality in their squad to win inside the 90 minutes, avoiding extra time and more importantly the dreaded penalty shoot-out. The England win and under 2.5 at 6/4 looks very promising.

We also like the look of England to win to nil at 11/10.
