Chelsea centre-back David Luiz jumped to his own defence on Instagram yesterday as he responded to criticism about his form this season.

The Blues back four was run ragged on Saturday as Tottenham trashed Chelsea 3-1 at Wembley, and it could have been a lot worse if Spurs were more clinical.

Luiz was at fault for two of the goals as he jumped out of the way of Harry Kane's long-distance strike leaving goalkeeper Kepa flatfooted, before Heung-Min Son easily rounded the Brazilian to make it 3-0.

Maurizio Sarri's side have only conceded 11 goals so far in the league this season and the 31-year-old has directly at fault for seven of those, that's a whopping 63 percent.

And when we posted these stats on Insta yesterday asking if it's time for Sarri to recruit a new centre-half, the Brazilian had his say.

"And the 28 points we had won?? Leaders always take the responsibility, no problem!!!," Luiz responded in reference to Chelsea's points tally in the league this season.

Meanwhile, the 31-year-old has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in the upcoming window.

His contract ends in the summer and Chelsea may be reluctant to award the defender with a new one due to his age, leading to speculation that they might look to cash in on him in January and Barcelona are leading the way at 11/2.

While, it is also understood Chelsea have already lined up his replacement as they are frontrunners in the race for Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar, according to Italian news organisation Calciomercato.

It is understood Chelsea are prepared to pay 80million Euros for the 23-year-old, which would see off competition from Premier League rivals Manchester United, who are also in dire need of a centre-half.

And despite Skriniar starting all 14 of Inter's games this season, it is believed the San Siro side wouldn't turn down the massive sum for the Slovakian.
