Tennis player Fernando Verdasco has received widespread criticism for the manner in which he treated a young ball boy for being too slow with his towel.

The Spaniard beat Andy Murray on straight sets to book a semi-final showdown with Yoshihito Nishioka at the Shenzhen Open but ended up losing against the 22-year old - not that many people had any sympathy with him due to the way he conducted himself.

At one point in the match on centre court, Verdasco asked for his tall from the young ball boy and when the kid was not quick enough for his liking, he fumed at him and had to be warned by the umpire.

The 34-year old's actions garnered reaction aplenty on social media, with so many people slating Verdasco for how he carried on.

There's really no need, is there? Granted he was frustrated but the poor lad is a volunteer and was doing his best. What's more, Verdasco has done this sort of thing before - throwing his towel on the ground for a ball boy to pick up earlier this year.

Get your own towel from now on, mate.
