Xbox Series X Release Date And Price Confirmed

In a lengthy post on the official Xbox website, Microsoft confirmed the details we've all been waiting for.

Fans can get hold of the Xbox Series X in just a few months - it launches on November 10th, with pre-orders going live from September 22nd. Better yet, we can now confirm that the console will cost $499/£449.

Alternatively, customers can enter into a 24-month contract and get the Xbox Series X plus Game Pass and EA Play for £28.99 a month, which is... well, that's kind of ridiculous and I love it.

Given that the Xbox One launched for £429 in the UK, this isn't actually too shabby at all - especially given the multiple reports that suggested Microsoft's beefy next-gen hardware could set consumers back as much as £600.

"Now more than ever, gaming plays an important role in our lives," Microsoft writes. "As one of the greatest forms of creative expression, gaming sparks in our imagination and connects us to new worlds, stories, and our friends.

"On November 10th, a new generation of console gaming begins. That's when our vision becomes reality with the most performant, immersive and compatible next-generation console gaming experiences, and the freedom to play your games with your friends, anytime, anywhere."

This news comes just one day after a massive leak that might well have forced Microsoft's hand, as well the official reveal of the Xbox Series S: A cheaper next-gen Xbox Microsoft describes as boasting next-gen performance in the smallest Xbox ever. The Series S will launch alongside the Series X on November 10th, with a very reasonable price of $299/£250.

According to reports, the the cheaper console will feature 7.5GB of usable RAM, around 4 teraflops of GPU performance, and will launch with the same CPU found on the Xbox Series X. For comparison, the Series X is confirmed to be packing 16GB RAM and 12 teraflops of GPU performance.

Now that Microsoft has finally come out with the next-gen pricing for both console, Sony might actually let us know how much the standard and digital PlayStation 5 consoles will cost. It's clear that both companies have been in something of a staring match for the last several months when it comes to pricing. Whether or not Sony will be able to undercut Microsoft on these prices remains to be seen, but be sure to watch this space for further updates.
