Jarryd Hayne made the move from rugby player to American footballer and back again in just 14 months. After a failed career in the NFL he was hoping to make it to the Olympics with Fiji at the rugby 7s players has missed out.

Hayne was attempting to do his own version of the Sonny Bill Williams trick although as with his most recent conversion of sport he's been no where near as successful as his New Zealand counterpart in attempting to be in Rio for the first time rugby sevens has been at the Olympics.

The 28 year old won the World Cup as a rugby league player, beating Sonny Bill's New Zealand in the final at Old Trafford, and then converted to American football in 2015. He had one year with San Francisco 49ers in the NFL but retired to try his hand at rugby union in the sevens.

His goal was to make the Fiji squad for Brazil but he revealed that he's missed out saying, "Last Friday I had a meeting with Ben to discuss my future with the team and I was informed that my time has ended. As much as I would have loved to go to Rio, I too knew I wasn't ready yet."

Hayne revealed how hard he'd worked to try and achieve his dream adding, "During my time with the team, I pushed my body above and beyond. I used all my experience as a professional athlete and have tried everyday and in every way possible to make this team and make it better but unfortunately, time has been against me."

The former Parramatta Eels back is expected to return to the sport where he made his name with the Eels.
