Nicola Adams and Sir Bradley Wiggins are set to go head-to-head to decide who will be the Team GB flag-bearer at the opening ceremony of the Rio Olympics on Friday.
The world's first female Olympic boxing champion and the legendary cyclist are reported to be the front-runners for the honour, which will be decided by officials from the British Olympic Association before Friday. Other hopefuls in the running include veteran showjumper Nick Skelton, set to compete in his seventh Olympic Games, and rower Katherine Grainger, although Adams and Wiggins are the favourites for the role.
Should Adams be selected as the official flag-bearer, she will make history in becoming the first black athlete to carry the Team GB flag at an opening ceremony - and only the fourth female in history to do so.
Wiggins won gold in the cycling time trial at the London games in 2012, becoming the most decorated British Olympian ahead of Sir Steve Redgrave.
