WTF?

If you thought Polish cyclist Pawel Poljanski image of what his legs looked like what his legs looked like after a gruelling 16 stage, 2829 km course in the Tour de France, was grim, then this shocking snap of Olympic rower Alex Gregory's hands after 1,000 km of rowing might be too much for you to bear.

As reported by Shortlist, the two-time Olympic Gold winner is part of a crew of nine rowers who have embarked on an expedition from Norway to Iceland that began on 20 July.

The team, which also comprises of men from countries such as Iceland, India, United States and Norway, have broken eleven world records in their monstrous 965 km row according to The New York Times, but serious weather issues in the arctic sea, as well as no sun or functioning electrical equipment, led to the Polar Row team being stranded on an Island in a dangerous turn of events.

For their safety, on Monday, the group made the decision to not complete the full journey to Iceland and manually steered towards the Island of Jan Mayen, said to be 600km from Iceland. They are being taken care of by the Norwegian military and Norwegian Meteorological Institute, and are "extremely happy and healthy" and most importantly: warm.

It's a horrifically-sounding ordeal made even worse by an image Gregory, a five-time world champion, shared of his hands as a result of the unimaginable cold, wet and humid conditions.

WARNING: It's absolutely grim.

The 33-year old attached the revolting sight with the caption: "My hands after spending so long in wet gloves. The blisters were never bad on this Polar row, but the wet & damp seeped into the skin..."

As you would expect, Twitter was in complete and utter disbelief over the state of Gregory's hands:

Here's hoping Alex and the rest of the team are able to get home safely after a terrifying, life-endangering situation.
