The Latest Forbes Highest-Paid Athletes Rankings Have Been Released And There's A New Number One

The latest Forbes top 100 highest-paid athletes list has been released and there's a change at the very top.

Following his mega Las Vegas bout with Conor McGregor, where 'Money' improved his record to an incredible 50-0, Floyd Mayweather has regained his crown - sitting on a ridiculous $285 million in earnings in salary and bonus data from June 1 2017 and June 1 2018.

Mayweather made a staggering $275 million (£205m) alone from his fight with McGregor, who is fourth on the list after accruing $99 million.

The former five weight world champion took to Instagram to comment on the list, calling all participants "true champions".

Mayweather was the winner in 2014 and 2015 before Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo came out on top for two years on the trot. The Portuguese dropped down to third this time around though, having earnt $3 million less than his fellow five-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi.

Neymar, the world's most expensive footballer, completes the football-heavy top five after earning $90 million, while household names Lebron James, Roger Federer and Steph Curry are all in the top ten.

11 different sports are coveredin the list, with a record 40 NBA basketball players included in the top 100.

Athletes from 22 countries are featured, with the United States the most represented with 66. The UK has five in the ranks, with F1 ace Lewis Hamilton it at 12 on $51 million.

For the first time ever female athletes are in the mix year, with Serena Williams dropping out all together after being ranked 51st last time out.
