WATCH: Fernando Alonso's First Test In Indy 500 Goes Well

Fernando Alonso deserves to be in a good car, near the front of the grid, fighting for race wins and potentially championships. Instead he's had to head to Indy 500 to get close to that and he's had his first test.
McLaren find themselves in a situation where they have gone from being one of the best team's in Formula One to a mid field team to right at the back as their Honda engine has continued to cause them issues.

So far this season Alonso has finished 14th in one race, failed to finish in two races and last weekend in Russia he even failed to start the race with his McLaren breaking down on the formation lap, leaving him frustrated once again.
However the two time world champion only has one more race, in Barcelona next weekend, before he gets to take a break from F1 when he gets the chance to race in Indy 500 for the McLaren Honda team.
Alonso did his first test run in car yesterday and it's looking pretty good for the Spaniard:

110 laps on the board and a top speed of over 222MPH - not a bad day on track for @alo_oficial! #AlonsoRunsIndy pic.twitter.com/vxHnTDK6Zx

Speaking after the test run Alonso said, "It felt good. The first couple of runs were very different from what I'm used to driving, just the oval and the actual car. But I probably got up to speed quite quickly and now feel a little bit better."
The former Renault driver will return to the US for further practice, before qualifying and the race, on May 19th after the Barcelona Grand Prix.
