WWE fans will have to wait even longer to see Shelton Benjamin return to the company following the news that the 41-year old has suffered a serious shoulder injury and requires surgery.
Benjamin was slated to return to WWE as part of the Smackdown brand, with WWE posting a video hyping his return.

But in a series of tweets, the fan favourite revealed today that he is unable to return to WWE just yet following a serious injury to his shoulder.
I am both disappointed & sadden to announce that due to a serious injury to my shoulder I will not be returning to @WWE at this time.
For now I will have to put pro-wrestling to the side as I prepare to undergo surgery to repair my torn rotator.
This comes as a shock to me as i am no stranger to performing while in pain yet I had no idea of the severity of my condition
Thank you @WWE for helping me discover this situation & for giving me an opportunity to return. I will be back
For now I must refocus my energy on repairing my body and mind.
Not the news WWE fans were hoping for, but at 41, it's the absolutely right decision for him to have the surgery and return at a later date when he is at 100%.

Here's hoping that Benjamin has a speedy recovery and we will see the three-time Intercontinental Champion, two-time United States Champion and two-time Tag Team Champion tearing it up in WWE after a six-year absence.
