Dave Chisnall has whitewashed Michael van Gerwen 5-0 at the William Hill World Darts Championship - while also coming out on top in one of the greatest-ever legs.

Chisnall hadn't beaten world number one van Gerwen in 27 previous meetings but came out on top in a thrilling quarter-final encounter.

A highlight of the match came during the fourth set, when both men traded perfect darts on the Ally Pally stage.

Confidence radiated from both men, with 'Chizzy' first stepping up to produce a 180 to start.

He then produced a second consecutive 180, while van Gerwen had 180 and 140 respectively.

Chisnell missed a nine-darter by inches and ver Gerwen replied by showing him exactly how the 141 works.

The commentators laughed along and stated: "I've seen everything, what a staggering leg of darts!"

Fans have reacted to the contest and they think it was the perfect way to kick off the new year.

Chisnall will face Gary Anderson in the last four, while the other semi-final will see Stephen Bunting play Gerwyn Price.
