Oscar Pistorius Set To Receive Less Than Minimum Sentence For Murder

Disgraced former Paralympian

Three years after murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, Paralympian Oscar Pistorius is reportedly set to get less than the minimum 15 year sentence for murder.

Pistorius shot Steenkamp dead at his home in Pretoria, South Africa, on Valentine's Day three years ago and had already faced one year in prison, of a five year sentence, for culpable homicide, the equivalent of manslaughter.

However a court appeal upgraded his conviction to murder and he's set to hear his new sentence on Wednesday but according to reports that sentence is likely to be less than the usual minimum for murder.

The minimum sentence for murder should be 15 years however because of time spent in prison and his disability attorney Ulrich Roux told AFP he doesn't believe the disgraced former Paralympian will get that long.

"'I don't think he will get the 15 years. His personal circumstances and the disability will be taken into account. One possibility is that part of the sentence may be suspended."

Pistorius recently told an interview, his first and only one since the killing, that he believed Steenkamp would rather he spend his life repenting and working with charities rather than in prison saying, "I would like to believe that if Reeva could look down upon me that she would want me to live that life."

The 29 year-old plead not guilty to killing his former girlfriend in rage and has continued to claim that he didn't know it was Steenkamp behind the door he shot her through, thinking it was an intruder.
