SBG Ireland head coach John Kavanagh has revealed his star pupil is undergoing a new regime for the eagerly anticipated rematch against Nate Diaz.

McGregor was on course to join the UFC record books until Rafael Dos Anjos withdrew from their bout with a broken foot, paving the way for Diaz. The American proved to have too much staggering the Irishman on the feet before turning McGregor into a panic wrestler eventually succumbing to Diaz's wizardry submission game.

As both camps prepare for one another, the Irishman has implemented a strict new regiment under the guidance of Kavanagh. He detailed the new approach on ESPN's Five Rounds podcast saying;

"If I was to sum it up, there's order to this training camp. There's no chaos. Everything is very disciplined, very military style. Beforehand, it was kind of done on Conor's whim, how he felt on a certain day."

Kavanagh even proclaimed him as "McGregor 3.0" while stressing the importance of the fight, continuing to add;

"This fight actually feels bigger to me than the (Jose Aldo championship fight in December), if I'm being honest. I really feel this will sum up a lot of what the gym stands for and of course, Conor's legacy as well."

The rematch was initially scheduled for UFC 200, but as a result of the featherweight champ missing a presser, it saw him yanked from the card with the contest now set for UFC 202 on August 20th in Las Vegas, Nevada - early hours 21st for us British and Irish folks.
