What John Cena Has Said About Conor McGregor Surprises Everybody

McGregor once called him a "big, fat, 40-year-old failed Mr. Olympia m**********r.”

Conor McGregor is no stranger to trying his hand at other combative sports. I'm not sure if you remember, but he did this whole thing where he temporarily traded in MMA to box Floyd Mayweather Jr last year. It was pretty big at the time.

And once again, the 29-year-old is linked with a switch away from UFC; this time the WWE, a company that just loves bringing in huge-name celebrities and athletes to its company before rolling out its revered Wrestlemania event in April.

However, if McGregor were to make the move, the UFC star might find that he won't receive a particularly warm welcome, and it's mainly because of the blistering tirade he made social media against the entire WWE roster a couple of years back.

Indeed, the Dublin-born UFC lightweight champion is never shy in expressing his feelings - and, being his usual, affable self, he responded to a question posed to him at a Q&A session about WWE superstar John Cena.

"What's the main guy? John Cena," McGregor said.

"He's 40. He's 40 years of age. He's walking around in a luminous orange t-shirt and a headband talking about nobody can see him.

"We can see him right there. He's a big, fat, 40-year-old failed Mr. Olympia m**********r."

Ouch. You can imagine that Cena wasn't best pleased when he heard what McGregor said.

And now, Cena, perhaps the biggest WWE star of all time, has responded to the Irish fighter's smack talk. But instead of giving McGregor some well-deserved back-chat - or even finding him and giving a massive Attitude Adjustment through a table, the wrestler went on to compliment the former UFC star.

"He would do fantastic, hell, he would put me out of work," said Cena.

"He gets the entertainment aspect of sport, and I think he gets it as good, or better than anyone else. The way he promoted the fight against [Floyd] Mayweather - that's what we do. He did it as good, or better than us."

Fair play, Cena. Maybe McGregor should take a leaf out of your book.
