Usain Bolt Has His Say On Russian Athletics Rio Ban

Bravo Usain!

At times it has seemed that Usain Bolt is the one man saviour of athletics. The superman with the world record in 100 and 200 metres and the cool attitude vs the drug ridden suspicion that clouds every event. The man himself has had his say on the latest doping scandal gripping us all.

Bolt is the number one draw in athletics, probably the Olympics and maybe even world sport! If you aren't excited about watching Bolt in a final then what are you doing on a sports website?

But whilst the Jamaican keeps us all excited athletes who dope make us question the very sport we are watching and should be filling us with joy. Fortunately the IAAF have reduced that risk by banning Russian athletes and Lightning Bolt has had his say on the ban:

"It's a good message to show that if you cheat or you go against the rules then we're going to take serious action. This (ban on track and field athletes) will scare a lot of people, or send a strong message that the sport is serious, we want a clean sport.

"If you have the proof and you catch somebody I definitely feel you should take action. And if you feel banning the whole team is the right action then I am all for it. Rules are the rules and doping violations in track and field is getting really bad so if you feel like you need to make a statement then thumbs up."

Bolt could also be affected by dopers. At Rio he should be looking to be the first man to complete the treble-treble, winning gold in the 100, 200 and 4x100m at three Olympics, however his 2008 relay teammate Nesta Carter has had a sample from the 2008 Olympics comeback as positive for Methylhexaneamine in a retest which could see the gold taken away from the team.

The 29 year-old is running at the London Anniversary Games this week having had a recent hamstring injury and is looking to get ready for The Games next month where his biggest challenge is likely to come from former drug cheat Justin Gatlin. Once again he'll be running for himself, his country and his sport.
