Well that didn't last long. Felipe Massa's retirement from Formula One lasted about as long as a wrestler's retirement from WWE or a boxer in need of cash. But this time it's not Massa who is desperate but the team he returns to.

Massa bowed at the end of the season after 15 years in Formula One with his Williams deal up and the team not re-signing him. However Williams plans have suddenly changed meaning they need the Brazilian.

Whilst Massa's retirement wasn't that surprising the decision by newly crowned world champion Nico Rosberg to call it a day after winning the sport's ultimate prize took everyone by surprise by retiring.

Mercedes have decided to replace the German with now former Williams driver Valtteri Bottas:

And that means that Williams have brought back 35 year old Massa out of retirement before he's even had chance to pick up his first pension:

The former Ferrari driver rejoins the team on a one year deal to join 18 year old Lance Stroll after a season where he failed to finish on the podium in any race but did have 13 top 10 finishes.

Massa's penultimate race of last season, which was considered to be his last at his home track in Brazil, ended when his car broke down in front of the pits and engineers from several teams stood to applaud him as he walked to his pit.

Kind of seems like a waste now:

Welcome back Felipe!
