Fan favourite Shelton Benjamin will return to WWE as part of the Smackdown brand.
Benjamin has been away from WWE for six years, having left the company to wrestle in Japan with New Japan Pro Wrestling and Noah.
But in a vignette aired on Smackdown on Tuesday, WWE confirmed that they have brought in the free agent and he will be part of the Smackdown brand going forward.

The All-American was incredibly successful in his first stint in WWE, winning the coveted Intercontinental Championship on three occasions, the United States Championship two times as well as winning the WWE Tag Team Championships twice as part of the "World's Greatest Tag Team" with partner Charlie Haas.
A supremely gifted athlete and former amateur wrestling champion, Shelton Benjamin was a University of Minnesota scholar along with Brock Lesnar, before switching to professional wrestling and leaving fans in awe with his death-defying stunts and incredible athleticism.
Benjamin is currently 41, but can still go in the ring and will be an excellent addition to Smackdown. What will his role be on the blue brand? Expect some answers in the coming weeks when the Gold Standard is back in a WWE ring.

Here's hoping he still has the same belting theme song when he returns.
Smackdown have also brought in former ECW Champion Rhyno, who made his presence known on last night's Smackdown.
