A member of Team GB has been held up at gunpoint on a night out in the middle of Rio de Janeiro. The news follows the recent incident involving members of the US swimming team who are still facing questioning over their story.

The story from the Guardian doesn't name any one who was involved but it does say that the news has reverberated around the camp and has left athletes and officials in the team in shock especially as many were looking forward to enjoying the cities nightlife at the end of their competitions.

The British athletics team responded to the news by sending a letter to members of the team to remind them that leaving the Olympic village was done so at their own risk.

A spokesman for the British Olympic team confirmed an "incident of theft", adding: "All members of our delegation, including the individual concerned, are accounted for, and are safe and well."

The letter informs members of the team "Do not go out of the village wearing TeamGB kit or carry anything of value unless absolutely unavoidable - this makes you too big a target for theft/crime. You MUST inform a member of team management if you are leaving the village and planning on staying out overnight - please do this BEFORE you leave."
