Jenson Button is set to call time on his Formula One career, following this Sunday's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The 36-year old had revealed back in September that he was to reluinquish his 2017 once the 2016 Formula One season had finished, though he vowed to remain involved as a reserve driver and take up an ambassadorial role with McClaren.

The 2009 world title holder confirmed the news in today's press conference that the upcoming race on Sunday will be the final time he takes to the track in Formula One.

He said:

"I go into this weekend thinking it's going to be my last race, I think that's the best way. It is going to be my last race. At this moment in time, I don't want to be racing in F1 beyond this year."

Button took his first steps into the sport from the age of eight when he took up go-karting.

From the 304 races he has featured in, he won 15, with a total of 50 podium finishes. His 2009 victory saw him win a record-equalling six of the first seven races of the 2009 campaign on his way to a memorable win at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Reflecting on his career, he said:

"You get to Formula 1 with many dreams and hopefully you leave the sport with memories - some amazing memories, some life-changing, some good, some bad. And also to walk away with the world championship is very special too.

"Over 300 grands prix and I will definitely step away from F1 happy with what I've achieved and definitely my life starts now."
