Stint As Vice Captain Convinces Tiger Woods He Wants To Captain U.S

Would be interesting.

For someone who wants sat as the world's number one golfer for more than 600 weeks Tiger Woods has a rubbish record as a player in the Ryder Cup. But as a vice captain life has begun pretty sweetly. Now he wants the top job.

Woods never seemed like one who could play nicely with his mates. His partnership with then world number two Phil Mickelson in 2004 was nothing short of a disaster and his 9-16-1 record in fourballs and foursomes suggests he'd rather go it alone but last weekend might have changed him.

The 14 time major winner has missed the last two Ryder Cups as a player and three of the last five. But in Team USA's victory over Europe at the weekend he was an instrumental vice captain to Davis Love III and Woods now considers being a captain himself in the future:

"Seeing what our captain went through, that's hard. Yeah, I would love to do it. I would be honored to do it in the future, if asked.

"There's a lot of things that I didn't realize that went on, and very eye-opening and it was a great experience. It really was. I learned a lot and I became really close to a lot of these guys, and it's been just an honor to be part of it"

In the past the US have been accused of no long term thinking. Whilst the Europeans always look sure of the next man to captain the team the Americans have often had a more scatter gun approach.

However the Americans are expected to name Fred Couples, Jim Furyk and Woods' former playing partner Steve Stricker as the next three captains for the matches in 2018, 20 and 22 but there's no reason Woods couldn't captain one of those three matches or in the future.

The 40 year old has not given up his dream of playing again adding, "From the player standpoint of it, I like playing."

Could Woods make a successful transition from lone wolf to captain?
