The Olympic Games are well underway, with athletes from around the world finally getting the opportunity to compete to see who is the very best.

And the former partner of New Zealand athlete Hayden Wilde was clearly impressed with his performance, coming out and saying she regrets breaking up with him after he claimed a medal in the triathlon at the games in Tokyo, Japan.

While interviewing fans in Wilde's home town of Whakatāne in the Bay of Plenty region, local broadcaster 1News stumbled across a woman who used to date the bronze medallist.

Sharing a message with the broadcaster, the unidentified woman told Wilde: "I regret breaking up with you."

But then she pulled it back, saying that she was really happy for her ex because he had put a lot of work into making the podium and deserved every bit of success.

She said: "Just all the work he's obviously done to get there is amazing.

"I went to primary school with him and he's grown so much and I'm real proud."

Following his big moment, Wilde said his current girlfriend wasn't in Japan but was watching him compete.

The 23-year-old said: "I think I'll just be calling my girlfriend who's actually in Spain at the moment.

"She was up in the early hours of the morning watching the race."

But Hayden isn't the only triathlete to make quite the impression at this year's games.

Norway's Kristian Blummenfelt secured the gold medal in the event, but instead of congratulating him on the impressive win, people couldn't help but notice something else.

Blummenfelt, who finished in one hour, 45 minutes and four seconds, was wearing an all-white uniform for the race - which ended up going rather see through.

This meant that viewers could see his black trunks underneath and, with social media users being the adults that they are, people took to Twitter to mock the whole thing - specifically the designer.

It seems it wasn't just people behind the keyboard either because someone explained how the commentator during the triathlon also poked fun at the designer needing to be 'sacked'.

According to reports, the pundit went on: "They are of course his swimmers under there. Superman wears his underpants on the outside. They've got it wrong haven't they?"

People were quick to hit out at the decision with one writing: "The designer of the Norwegian triathlete outfits had a f****** vendetta against Blummenfelt or something."

Another added: "Whoever designed Norway's triathlon kit for #TokyoOlympics2021 must have been inspired by Captain Underpants(?). Amazing finish by Blummenfelt though. Clearly the superhero outfit worked!"

Someone else wrote: "Did Norway think to test their triathlon uniform in water?"
