Shocking footage shows how a dad charged across a sports hall to tackle the teenager that had slammed his son in a high school wrestling match.

Barry Lee Jones, 54, was arrested and charged with assault after slamming his son's opponent to the ground after he allegedly performed an illegal move.

Jones' son, a student at Hickory Ridge High School in North Carolina, US, was wrestling against a student from Southeast Guilford High School - also in North Carolina - when he was body slammed, according to the Metro.

Jones was arrested and charged with assault.

According to North Carolina High School Athletic Association, the referee was giving the hand signal to call the move out.

Sharon Contreras, the Superintendent of Schools for Guilford County, told Fox 8: "It's very unfortunate, and it just shows a society that I feel sometimes we're just losing all decorum.

"I want to say that the parents from that high school wrote us a lovely letter saying they were equally appalled."

She later added: "It's not who they are as a community. And I certainly apologise to the students at both high schools who experienced that, particularly the student who was attacked."

There are many parents that will push boundaries to stick up for their kids (albeit not by using violence). Remember when this dad pushed his eight-year-old goalkeeper son Osian Hatfield into the net in a bid to stop the ball?

Of course you do. Phil Hatfield, Osain's dad was watching the U8's fixture from the sidelines at Penweddig's playing field in Llanbadarn, Ceredigion, Wales, alongside his wife.

Speaking to SPORTbible, Phil said: "He just wasn't concentrating. So I decided to go behind the goal to try and get him to focus.

"I tried to tell him to concentrate. Then he walked over to talk to me and in a bit of a panic, I gave him a nudge to try and get him back in the net, but he tripped over his feet."
