Imagine being known as the guy who rode the biggest wave in the world - something that would no doubt give you immediate respect FOREVER.
Well, Rodrigo Koxa will probably never stop telling people about that one time in Portugal. Whether he's in a bar or going about the mundanities of everyday life, we bet he's shouting it from the rooftops. After seeing the video for ourselves, we can't blame him in the slightest.

I mean, it's no biggie - he only broke the world record for the riding the biggest wave ever surfed. Pretty bloody cool isn't it?
According to the MailOnline, Rodrigo caught the 80ft monster at Nazaré in Portugal on 8 November 2017. However, his record wasn't confirmed until the World Surf League's Big Wave Awards in California earlier this year. Just imagine having to wait that long to receive the crown after risking life and limb... Bit harsh.
In a statement, the World Surf League said: "The award goes to the surfer who, by any means available, catches the biggest wave of the year."
"Not only did Koxa win this year's honour, but he now holds the Guinness World Record for the biggest wave surfed."

Meanwhile, the 38-year-old said winning the award was 'the best day of my life'.
His mate Lucas Chianca was also awarded the Best Men's Overall Performance trophy, while the Best Women's Overall Performance went to Hawaiian surfer Paige Alms for the third time in her career. Alms defended her Big Wave Tour crown after winning the Pe'ahi Challenge this year.
Britain's Andrew Cotton won the Wipeout of the Year award after his horror fall in Nazare, Portugal, on the same day that Rodrigo completed his master ride. Unsurprisingly, he wasn't there to pick up his award, as he was still recovering from the broken vertebrae that he suffered in that wipe-out.

So surfers pick up casual injuries? Who would have thought?
It clearly is a pretty dangerous sport - recently we told the story of Dylan McWilliams, who was attacked by a shark while out surfing near a Hawaii beach.
Dylan took his boogie board down to the only stretch of coastline on the island without the warnings and hopped in to catch a few waves.
It was when he was knocked from his board in about 15ft of water that he felt a searing pain ripple through his left leg.

We think we'll leave surfing to these guys for now, it sounds like a scary pain in the backside.
