What can Lionel Messi not do? If he's not scoring consistently for Barcelona, then he's smashing different records or setting up new ones instead.

That's exactly what the Argentine magician has done again.

Messi scored twice in Barcelona's 8-2 thrashing of Huesca on Sunday, selflessly sacrificing the opportunity to bag a 31st La Liga hat-trick by allowing Luis Suárez to take a penalty.

However, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner was able to become the first player to reach 150 assists in La Liga in the 21st century, according to OptaJose.

That's right, it's another accolade that Messi is able to add to his ever-growing collection - we could be here for a while if we had to make a full list of them.

Let's not underplay how much Messi must be on cloud nine right now.

In fact, he has the most assists out of anyone in Europe's top five leagues and is followed closely behind by Cesc Fàbregas (143), Mesut Özil (128), Cristiano Ronaldo (122) and Dani Alves (110).

Thanks to the folks at OptaJose, we also know who has benefited the most from Messi's incredible assisting abilities.

Here are the top five players:

  1. Luis Suárez: 23
  2. Pedro Rodríguez: 14
  3. Samuel Eto'o: 13
  4. Neymar: 12
  5. David Villa: 10

It looks like Suárez is going to be in for a right treat if Messi keeps this up for the rest of the current season.

Xavi and Andrés Iniesta might not be there in the beating heart of Barcelona's midfield, but it looks like Messi is stepping up his game (again) to fill that void.
