Anthony Martial's Manchester United career has continued to shift back and forth over the past couple of months. At one point, United fans were preparing for life without the Frenchman, but now they're eagerly awaiting news of him penning a new five-year deal.
It's not a done deal, of course, but many people would welcome the young talent prolonging his career with the Red Devils.
Sam Allardyce doesn't seem to think it's a smart move to offer Martial a new contract, though.
"I'm very surprised if they have offered him a five-year contract in all honesty," he told Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast (via GiveMeSport).
"We've seen the odd flash of his brilliance, but by now he should be showing that brilliance on a more regular basis. He should be hitting top form more often than not.
"He's had two managers [Louis van Gaal and José Mourinho] now and both managers have found it difficult to find him a regular place in the Man United side."
Brutal words from the former England boss on Martial, but there would be many that would agree with Big Sam.
Martial's career has failed to take off as many had hoped for and the troublesome relationship with United boss José Mourinho isn't doing him any favours.
You never know what can happen, though. Just look at Luke Shaw and how he's been firing on all cylinders. Most people would have banked on him spending the rest of the season on the bench.

Martial could re-enter Mourinho's good books and end up signing a new deal.
