The horrific moment a bodybuilder's pec rips away from his bone has been caught on camera.

In the video, 23-year-old Ryan Crowley, from the UK, is bench pressing while at a gym in Dubai. As he lowers the bar towards his chest, his muscle appears to pop outwards, away from his bone.

It was captioned: "WARNING GRAPHIC* With your help we have covered all of @ryancrowley97 expenses for surgery! Thank you!"

Now, the future of his career is uncertain, as he recovers from surgery to repair the damage.

His trainer, who goes by the name Larry Wheels on Instagram, spots him as he strains while lowering the bar towards him.

It's not known how much he was attempting to lift when the accident happened.

In a bid to pay for the treatment, a GoFundMe was set up to cover it, as it wasn't included in his medical insurance.

Crowley, who on his own social media says he used to live in London, managed to get the surgery he needed. The GoFundMe raised more than £27,000 in a week, from 1,300 donations.

In a later post on social media, Crowley thanks those who donated, saying that he wouldn't have been able to get his muscle fixed to 'the right standard' if it hadn't been for the extra money.

The procedure itself was only supposed to take an hour, but it ended up taking four hours after doctors didn't realise the extent of the injury.

They ended up having to reconstruct his pec muscle, because the tendon had ripped off the bone, and the muscle then came off the tendon.

He's now been discharged and is staying in a hotel while he tries to recover from the trauma to his body.

Speaking on social media, Ryan said: "An incredible thank you so much to everyone who has been involved and supported me in this terrible time, it's been extremely devastating, painful and very mentally and physically impossible, but I'm keeping as strong and positive as I can."

He says he is in pain after the surgery and he also revealed that his whole body had swelled up.
