A petition created by a Nick M to make the late Kobe Bryant the NBA Logo has already garnered nearly 200,000 signatures. Bryant passed away yesterday in Calabasas, California.

The NBA and Sport icon, Kobe Bryant passed away yesterday. The 41-year-old was travelling in his Helicopter yesterday in Calabasas, California with seven other people who all lost their lives. Including Kobe's 13-year-old Daughter, Gianna Maria Bryant.

With the sporting world mourning the loss of one of their biggest icons, fan support has been everywhere.

For a player who introduced the game of Basketball to many fans alike across the Globe (writer included), a petition to make him the NBA Logo was made and already has nearly 200,000 signatures on it.

The current NBA Logo is based on the likeness of NBA Legend, Jerry West. The silhouette of West has been the logo for Decades and West was also the man who drafted Kobe Bryant to the Los Angeles Lakers back in 1996.

Bryant was drafted 13th by the Charlotte Hornets in the 1996 NBA Draft, then subsequently traded to the Lakers the same-day for Vlade Divac.

West also played for the Lakers himself back in the 1960's with his number 44 retired and hanging in the Staples Center.

As General Manager of the Lakers in the 90's and 00's, West saw Kobe blossom from a child into one of the greatest players of all time.

West was asked about Kobe's passing yesterday on CBS News and said it felt like losing a Son.

I don't think West would be against such a thing happening, and if you want to be a part of memorialising one of Basketball's best ever players, then follow what this writer did and sign the petition linked here.

Rest in Peace, Kobe.
