The sporting world has been upstanding for Usain Bolt following the legendary Jamaican's final 100m race, last night at the World Athletic Championships. And now David Beckham has paid tribute to the great man.

While Bolt was unsuccessful in adding a twelfth World Championship gold to his collection, last night, with American sprinters Justin Gatlin and Christian Coleman beating the 30-year-old into third place, the fastest man in world history received no less adulation after the race, with Gatlin bowing down to the Olympic champion immediately after his boo laden victory.

While many were unimpressed with Gatlin's victory, given the 35-year-old's history of doping controversies, the outpouring of support for Bolt following his final ever 100m race was a fitting tribute for a man who will retire as arguably the greatest athlete of all time.

But perhaps the most touching tribute has come from David Beckham, who took to Instagram to salute the Jamaican icon and say thank you for the last nine golden years.

A class act, from one icon to another.
