Sony's hotly-anticipated PlayStation 5 could cost fans a hefty £449 when it is released later this year, according to analysts.

The PlayStation 4's successor was announced in 2019 and is expected to have two versions at launch: one featuring a Blu-ray disc drive and one without it.

And TechRadar has revealed that analysts are predicting for the next-generation console to be priced at £449 ($499) in the UK.

The publication added that Sony would most likely share details on PS5's official price in July, along with confirming a date for when pre-orders begin.

Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO and president Jim Ryan announced in April that the Japanese company's latest console would officially be called the PlayStation 5 and would launch in holiday 2020.

The PlayStation manufacturer shared the first look at the console's design at the Future of Gaming event on Thursday.

According to a press release, Sony will "announce pricing and additional details for PlayStation 5 at a later date."

Speaking of the price, SIE president Ryan said earlier this year: "I think the best way that we can address this is by providing the best possible value proposition that we can.

"I don't necessarily mean lowest price. Value is a combination of many things. In our area it means games, it means number of games, depth of games, breadth of games, quality of games, price of games... all of these things and how they avail themselves of the feature set of the platform."

Some of the titles that were on show at Future of Gaming included NBA 2K21, Horizon Forbidden West, Resident Evil Village and Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Sony has suggested that it will continue as planned with the PS5's release in 2020 amid the coronavirus pandemic.

"Sony estimates that there will be no material impact on this business for the current fiscal year," the company said in a statement.
