Watford are set to conclude a major piece of business on the eve of the new Premier League season kicking off, with an £18.5 million deal agreed for Burnley striker Andre Gray.

Gray should be a Hornets player in time for the season opener against Liverpool at Vicarage Road on Saturday lunchtime, with Troy Deeney still recovering from groin surgery.

The 26-year-old had rejected a new contract at Turf Moor, with his current deal only having 12 months remaining, meaning the former Brentford striker would have been able to start discussing terms with clubs in January ahead of a free transfer next summer.

Gray will become Watford's seventh signing of the summer, with new manager Marco Silva rebuilding the squad since taking over from Walter Mazzarri in May.

The Hornets had previously seen two bids rejected for Gray, who was also attracting interest from West Ham and Tottenham, according to the Telegraph.

Gray arrived at Turf Moor from Brentford in a £6 million deal, in 2015, firing the Clarets to promotion with 23 goals in 42 games during his debut season, before hitting another 10 goals in 36 appearances, last season, helping Sean Dyche's team avoid relegation back down to the Championship.
