Liverpool Fans Did Not React Well To Oxlade-Chamberlain's First Start

Liverpool Fans Did Not React Well To Oxlade-Chamberlain's First Start

Just a few short weeks ago, Liverpool fans were excited at the prospect of having taken Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain off Arsenal's hands. Four appearances later, though, and some Reds fans are yet to be convinced by the former Southampton youngster.

Oxlade-Chamberlain arrived at Anfield in a £40 million deal on transfer deadline day, three weeks ago, having endured a difficult six years in North London, constantly being played out of position by Arsene Wenger while also dealing with a number of injury problems.

The belief was that Jurgen Klopp would allow the 24-year-old to flourish, playing him in midfield rather than switching him across the pitch like Wenger did so often. Yet in four appearances for Liverpool, Chamberlain is yet to taste victory and his first start for the club, during last night's 2-0 defeat to Leicester City in the League Cup, was laden with mistakes that came in for much mockery on social media.

Of course, we live in an age where any player at a top club isn't allowed so much as one misplaced pace without some desperate soul on Twitter instantly recording it and attaching the player's price tag as a caption, so some of the criticism aimed at The Ox should be taken with a pinch of salt.

But nonetheless, it wasn't just rival fans who were highlighting Oxlade-Chamberlain's miserable night at the King Power stadium, last night. A section of Liverpool supporters were left questioning their new summer arrival, too.

Since The Ox's arrival at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp's men have lost 5-0 to Manchester City, drawn 2-2 with Sevilla, 1-1 with Burnley and lost 2-0 to Leicester. Liverpool will be hoping to avoid a repeat of last night's display this Saturday when they visit the King Power Stadium again.
