Paul Pogba's Injury Could Be A Lot Worse Than Expected

Paul Pogba's Injury Could Be A Lot Worse Than Expected

Potentially terrible news for Manchester United

When news filtered through that Paul Pogba's hamstring injury could potentially sideline the midfielder for between four to six weeks, Manchester United fans let out a collective groan at the prospect of losing one of their most influential players for over a month.

Now, they may have to prepare themselves for a much longer spell without the Frenchman.

Pogba was substituted during the first half of United's 3-0 victory over Basel in the Champions League, on Tuesday night and the initial diagnosis was a hamstring injury that would rule the former Juventus out for a month or so. Not ideal for a player who has been one of the Red Devils' most important so far, this season.

Yet a month might actually be the best case scenario, with reports today suggesting that Pogba could in fact be out for 12 weeks.

Duncan Castles has reported in the Times today that the 24-year-old could miss United's next 18 games and not be available until the new year, which would be a significant blow for Jose Mourinho's team who have started the new season in terrific form, taking 10 points from their opening four Premier League games and, until yesterday, leading the league table, with Pogba a focal point of United's play in each fixture.

Pogba's potentially lengthy absence should mean that Ander Herrera returns to United's first XI after falling out of favour with Jose Mourinho following an incident at the end of last season. The Spanish midfielder, who made 50 appearances for United last term, has only started one game so far during the 2017/18 campaign, but will likely be called upon in Pogba's absence.

United are yet to confirm anything regarding Pogba's injury and length of absence.
