He's made just five Premier League appearances for Chelsea this season, but Kepa Arrizabalaga remains the most expensive goalkeeper in the world.

The Spaniard joined the Blues for £71.6m in the summer of 2018, breaking the record set by Alisson's £68.8m transfer to Liverpool just a few weeks earlier.

The two goalkeepers have experienced contrasting fortunes ever since. While Alisson has won the Champions League and the Premier League with the Reds, Kepa has a sole Europa League winner's medal to his name from his stint with the Blues.

Kepa is now playing back-up to Edouard Mendy at Stamford Bridge, and was involved in a training ground bust-up with Antonio Rudiger last month.

However, new Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel insists Kepa has a future in west London, stating in February: "Maybe the circumstances of his transfer are a little bit on his shoulders.

"The good thing for him is that this is a new start for him because I don't have a history with him. It's a special position. If you do mistakes, everybody sees it and talks about it. You need a lot of mental strength and quality."

The same month, Kepa said: "Three months ago things were difficult. It has been a complicated year for a number of reasons. But I have never thought about leaving Chelsea.

"I did not have any problems with Frank Lampard. It's true that I did not give the best version of myself or play as I would have wanted. But we never had any issue. I hope to turn things around and I rely on my family, on trustworthy people, more than anything."

In fairness to Kepa, he hasn't conceded in his last five appearances for Chelsea in all competitions.

One Reddit user has now compiled a top 10 of the most expensive goalkeepers in the world.

In third spot is Gianluigi Buffon's £45m move from Parma to Juventus in 2001, with some notable names making up the remainder of the list. Just which club has got the best value for money remains open to debate.
