Carlo Ancelotti's dismissal from Bayern Munich may have been expected in some quarters closer to the situation at the Allianz Arena, but nonetheless, the Italian's sacking has still surprised a lot of football fans, with the former AC Milan boss leading the Bavarians to the Bundesliga title only four months ago.

Bayern currently sit in third place in the Bundesliga table, having lost to Hoffenheim and drawn with Wolfsburg in their opening six games. However, being just three points off the pace after only half a dozen games hardly seems like a disaster. And while Wednesday night's 3-0 Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain may have been humbling for the German champions, they will still likely qualify from their group comfortably, with Celtic and Anderlecht the other two teams in Group B alongside them.

Yet, it would seem that recent results weren't the only thing that was affecting Ancelotti's reign in Bavaria, with Bayern president Uli Hoeness claiming that the three time Champions League winning manager had lost the faith of five players, who had turned against him.

Talking to Westfalenpost, Hoeness said, via Goal, "There were five players against Ancelotti. It was impossible to get out of that."

These comments from Hoeness are at odds with what CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told the press after the Italian's dismissal, claiming that had Bayern had failed to meet expectations under Ancelotti.

It is believed that Robert Lewandowski, Arjen Robben and Thomas Muller are three of the five players that turned against the former Real Madrid manager, with all three players voicing their discontent at various stages. Muller endured one of his worst ever seasons, last term, under Ancelotti's stewardship, while Lewandowski had become disillusioned with the Italian after commenting the lack of transfer activity the club conducted over the summer. Robben, meanwhile, refused to publicly back Ancelotti on Wednesday night, after being asked if the Italian had the backing of the players following the PSG defeat.

Ancelotti, meanwhile has released an official statement on his Twitter account, thanking the club, the players and the fans.

Assistant manager Willy Sagnol will take charge of this weekend's game against Hertha Berlin.
