Ezequiel Lavezzi Forced To Apologise Following Racist Picture Debacle

Ezequiel Lavezzi Forced To Apologise Following Racist Picture Debacle

What was he thinking?

They say money can't buy you class and it's pretty obvious that it also fails to buy you sense! Ezequiel Lavezzi may be very highly paid in China but that hasn't stopped him becoming involved in a very stupid racism storm that he's had to apologise for.

Last week it emerged that Ezequiel Lavezzi is the highest paid player in the world when it comes to basic weekly wage. His basic is £798,000-per-week, a figure that would take me 42 years to earn!

For anyone wondering that's also more than 2000 years to earn what he earns in a year. It shows the difference between what an average footballer and an average at best writer can earn.

However I'd like to think that my inability to earn vast amount of money would not cloud my judgement when taking a PR photo shoot. First thing to do in one of these is make sure you don't take any potentially racist photos.

Unfortunately for the Hebei China Fortune forward he didn't think about that when he did a pre season photo shoot and one picture started doing the rounds this weekend.

The player put out a statement apologising for the picture saying, "Per the request of the Chinese Super League, we took the official photos for the season.

"We were given instructions by the official photographer and I was trying to make some interesting photos by making some funny faces, which would be used afterwards for entertainment purposes.

"I had no intention of insulting the Chinese people and did not do it with any bad intentions.

"I'm very happy to be here as part of the Hebei club. I have had a great time here with my team-mates and it has been a great journey. Every Chinese person around me is friendly and I love my life here.

"I deeply apologise if this photo has offended the Chinese public and fans. I will be more careful in the future."

The club have also put out a statement saying, "Since joining us at the beginning of 2016, Lavezzi has been getting along very well with the team and been loved by fans too. He has expressed his love for China many times too. Now we have communicated with him and have clarified he had no bad intentions and he deeply apologised for any offense caused."

Still if he does end up offending anyone he can just buy an island with a couple of weeks wages and live there for the rest of his life!
