Paul Merson's Chelsea And Arsenal XI Is His Finest Moment As A Pundit

His selections sum up his feelings about the current Arsenal team

Paul Merson isn't often a pundit many of us take particularly seriously. His bemoaning of foreign managers and inability to pronounce any surname that isn't Smith, Jones or his own has become a tiresome act over the last few years, yet the Arsenal legend may have just redeemed himself.

With Merson's former club taking on Premier League champions Chelsea tomorrow, there's a good chance Arsene Wenger's men could be heading for their third league defeat of the season, after only five games.

The Gunners are without a win in six years at Stamford Bridge, when a Robin van Persie hat-trick inspired Arsene Wenger's side to a 5-3 victory, in 2011. Since then, Arsenal have lost five straight Premier League matches at the Bridge, with an aggregate score of 15-2, including a 6-0 annihilation in 2014.

It is with this in mind, coupled with the Gunners' atrocious start to the season which has seen them beaten 1-0 at Stoke City and humiliated 4-0 at Anfield by Liverpool, that Merson has selected his combined Arsenal and Chelsea XI for tomorrow's clash at Stamford Bridge.

Even the Arsenal player selected doesn't want to be at the club any more, either.

On current form, it's hard to argue with any of Merson's selections. The former Gunner even rubbed salt into the wound when discussing Arsenal full-back Nacho Monreal, saying, "He wouldn't get into my team if I was picking a combined XI against a bottom-half team."

Naturally, Merson's selections have generated a fair amount of discussion:

Even former Arsenal star Charlie Nicholas couldn't disagree:

What do you make of Merson's selections? Agree? disagree?
