The Dallas Mavericks have retired the number 24 to honour the late Kobe Bryant. The Black Mamba passed away yesterday after being involved in a Helicopter Crash.

One of the greatest players to ever play the sport of Basketball, Kobe Bryant, passed away yesterday in a Helicopter crash with a supposed eight other victims. One of the victims has been named as Kobe's 13-year-old Daughter, Gianna Maria Bryant.

The 41-year-old Los Angeles Lakers legend's death has hit global news with numerous sporting and cultural greats paying their respects to Kobe.

Long-time rival team, Dallas Mavericks have expressed that no one will ever wear the number 24 for the Mavericks ever again, retiring the number in Bryant's honour.

Mavericks Owner, Mark Cuban said that Kobe transcended Basketball and that one of his famous jersey numbers will be retired by the Mavs.

"Kobe was an ambassador for our game, a decorated legend and a global icon. Above all, he was a loving and dedicated father.

"Kobe's legacy transcends basketball, and our organization has decided that the number 24 will never again be worn by a Dallas Maverick.

"Our hearts go out to all the lives lost and the families impacted by this terrible tragedy. We send our thoughts and prayers to Vanessa and the family, the Lakers organization and Kobe Bryant fans everywhere."

Kobe never played for the Mavericks, spending his 20-year career at the Lakers, but the move by the Mavericks will hopefully be copied by the rest of the NBA and either the number 8 or 24 should be retired by the league.

The Black Mamba was seen as recently as the day before at the Staples Center when the Lakers played the Philadelphia 76ers.

Current Laker LeBron James notably passed Kobe on the all-time scoring list at the game, when two of the greatest Sportsmen ever shared a moment after LeBron's made basket.

Kobe's last tweet was congratulating LeBron on the momentous achievement.

Rest in Peace, Kobe.
