There's nothing quite like a European football night at whichever ground you think has the best atmosphere. The crowd were quite something at Besiktas in 2017, forcing Timo Werner to be substituted.

The Champions League always has a special aura about it and any crowd is usually excited when the 'theme' hits at a stadium, even if it leads the Manchester City fans to boo it at least gets a reaction.

Football in Turkey also has quite the reputation for having enthused crowds that create a lot of noise so when you add those two things together you know that it's going to be a belting atmosphere.

What you don't expect is that the noise levels in Istanbul are going make a player ask to be substituted but that's exactly what happened to German striker Timo Werner when RB Leipzig took on Besiktas.

The 24 year old, as reported by the Telegraph, asked for ear plugs at the beginning of the game but that didn't help him and he still asked to be removed after just 31 minutes.

After the match Leipzig manager Ralph Hasenhuttl said, "It is impossible to prepare your team for an atmosphere like this. There was a deafening noise [and] at the start of the game we were a bit affected."

Bild reported that the player was suffering from circulatory problems and dizziness and Werner said after the match to Turkish reporters, "I have never seen such an atmosphere in my life. I could not focus on the match. I asked for a headset, and it did not help either. I still do not feel well."

Werner has a reputation as one of the best young forwards in Europe and has been linked with a move to the Premier League as Chelsea lead the race to sign the RB Leipzig striker.
