What a night for Lukas Podolski.

The 31-year old played his 130th and final game for Germany against England in Dortmund and it could not have gone much better.

The former Arsenal man, who was captain for the game, marked his retirement with a trademark left-footed thunderbolt that flew into the top corner.

The strike was Podolski's 49th goal for his country over a 13-year period and he was quite rightly taken off for a standing ovation late in the game.

You'll probably want to watch the latter part of the following clip a number of times:

However, Podolski leaving the field to the cheers of German fans clearly wasn't enough as something happened that I've never known to ever take place in a football game before.

Goal music has become part of football and is regularly played all over the world to get the atmosphere going when a team find the net.

But tonight we saw what I would expect is the debut of 'substitution music' as when Podolski left the pitch for the final time in international football, a loud tune could be heard playing over the speakers.

It was the 'Now We Are Free' song from the Gladiator film and it prompted plenty of reaction on social media:

What is your stance on substitution/retirement music? Was it over the top?

If you had to pick your music to bow out with, what song would you opt for? I'd probably go for Boyz II Men - End Of The Road.

As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments.
