Dele Alli Being Left Out Of The England Team Is Bizarrely Tactical

Roy Hodgson's a football genius.

Roy Hodgson just can't win, even when he's winning some will take a shot at the England manager. After changing his team at half-time and winning the crunch match against Wales we should all be applauding him but the best may be yet to come tonight.

After the former Fulham boss made the right subs at half-time so morons on Twitter, where else, were moaning that his changes just meant he was playing the team we'd all have started with. That's all the people who would start Sturridge ahead of Kane despite everyone being incredulous pre-tournament at the idea of Kane and Vardy not starting together and all those who questioned Sturridge's fitness, happy to hold my hands up for being guilty for that one.

Tonight the England manager will be making six changes from the side that beat Wales and has picked up a fair share of Twitter hate already, of course. That's despite kick-off being several hours away when people learnt of the very different side who will take on Slovakia tonight.

One man missing out is Dele Alli but it seems that it's not just to 'rest' him, oh no Hodgson is far too clever for that. It's all down to the Spurs' midfielder's penchant for picking up a silly booking.

You see after the usual, points, head-to-head and goal difference to split teams up in the group stages the next thing on the list is disciplinary record. As Dream Team put it should England lose 1-0 to Slovakia and Russia beat Wales by the same score then we'd be level on everything with the Russians meanwhile the same could be said if Wales and Russia draw 0-0 with England losing by the same 1-0.

That would mean either second or third place would be decided on disciplinary record and with the three teams involved, England, Russia and Wales, all on one yellow card each it's probably best to leave the hot head on the bench.

So what if everything is level after tonight's games? Well in the unlikely but purely possible situation that any side finishes level on points, goal difference and red and yellow cards then England would have the advantage because of our UEFA co-efficient. Yep the very complicated system that gives Arsenal their annual Champions League place for finishing fourth, yeah yeah they finished second I know, would put England ahead of either Russia or Wales.

Think it's stupid because it won't happen? This is England!
